JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
Our justice system works best when it’s tough on crime, fair to everyone, and practical about helping people get back on track. My time as Commissioner has given me real world experience with these exact issues. I’ve worked hand in hand with our sheriff’s office to keep our community safe; voting to fund more deputies, improve jail facilities, and support crime-prevention programs. I’ve seen firsthand how serious crimes and repeat offenders threaten neighborhoods, and I back strong measures to hold people accountable while protecting victims and the public. That same experience has shown me the importance of smart investments in programs that actually reduce crime over time.
I’m not soft on crime. Violent offenses, repeat offenders, and acts that harm people or erode trust in our community deserve real consequences. Sentences that fit the crime, deter others, and keep dangerous individuals off the streets when needed. As your commissioner, I’ve made tough budget calls to prioritize public safety without wasting taxpayer dollars. At the same time, I’ve learned that many people, especially first time offenders or those struggling with addiction, mental health, or poverty can turn their lives around. In my role, I’ve supported and funded treatment programs, job training initiatives, mental health services that help reduce recidivism and keep our county stronger. When someone shows genuine remorse, takes responsibility, makes restitution to victims, completes required programs, and proves they’re unlikely to re-offend, I’m open to alternatives like probation, community service, counseling, or structured rehabilitation instead of jail time. This isn’t weakness, it’s smart policy I’ve seen work at the county level to cut future crime and save money in the long run.
In my courtroom, every voice will be heard. As a commissioner, I’ve chaired public hearings and listened to law enforcement, families, business owners, and everyday residents on issues from crime trends to budget priorities. I’ll bring that same open, patient approach to the bench, giving defendants, victims, witnesses, and lawyers a fair chance to speak while deciding cases only on the facts, the law, and the evidence, not politics or outside pressure. This applies to civil cases too, like contract disputes, property issues, or county-related matters. My experience as commissioner reviewing budgets, contracts, and local ordinances has prepared me to apply the rules clearly, respect agreements, and reach balanced outcomes without overstepping.
My promise is straightforward, justice that’s firm enough to protect our families and neighborhoods, but fair enough to honor second chances and human dignity where it makes sense. My track record as county commissioner proves I can balance toughness with practicality. If elected, I’ll bring that same steady, experienced judgment to every case.
